The glowing shell-like form was visible from a distance of one-quarter mile. The Bus Shell-ter was made of bent strips of fluorescent Plexiglas attached to a steel frame in a shiplap pattern. Photovoltaic cells on top of the shelter provided power for recessed uplights located on the sidewalk. As they speed past the Bus Shell-ter, headlights from passing cars create a playful pattern of light across the Plexiglas skin. Programmed to illuminate at dusk, the photo-voltaic powered lights provided a sense of security at one busiest bus stop along El Dorado Street.
