Hilsabeck Residence
Architecture
Lafayette, CA
2018
A contemporary home originally built in 1982 on Silverwood Drive in Lafayette, CA, was slowly sliding downhill due to a creeping hillside site. The homeowner’s interest in adding a wine cellar to the property provided an opportunity to reinforce the foundation system and add a beautiful entertaining space overlooking a wooded backyard with a sports court tucked into the hillside. Above the new wine cellar, an outdoor deck provides space for lounging in front of a copper-clad fireplace and cooking at an outdoor kitchenette. The entire house was remodeled and expanded with a new home office and guest bedroom.
