About
Philosophy
After working within historic worship spaces across Europe and the US in his family-owned liturgical arts studio, Daniel Winterich developed an interest in creating the same inspirational qualities of light within contemporary environments. The goal of his studio’s work is to create memorable places through the use of light and light altering materials. His practice, Studio Winterich, is a multi-discipline studio pursuing commissioned permanent and temporary art installations, design and architectural projects.
Origins
Raised in a one hundred and five-year-old family business devoted to the liturgical arts, Daniel Winterich’s training in stained glass, painting, and mosaic work began in 1974. His extreme attention to craft, materials and design details developed over these early years while working on ecclesiastical projects across the Midwest and southern states.
During his studies at the University of Cincinnati School of Architecture and Interior Design, Daniel expanded his education at the German stained glass studio Oidtmann Glasmalerei in 1982 where he apprenticed in glass painting while working with Germany’s leading glass artists.
Upon completing his undergraduate design degree, Daniel’s interest in the integration of art and architecture led him to work with three award-winning architectural firms from 1984 to 1994 and become a registered architect.
After studies under Johannes Schreiter in 1994, one of Germany’s most renowned glass artists, Mr. Winterich started his own art and architecture practice through Studio Winterich where he pursues large-scale site-specific installations, autonomous artwork, and architectural projects.
