Following the shape of an analog wave, Signal expresses the core mission of Maxim Technologies. Maxim, a semiconductor company, specializes in translating analog signals into digital signals and back to analog. Maxim’s custom designed semiconductor chips are found in thousands of devices including iPhones, audio/ visual equipment, environmental controls and sound systems.
Clad in a digitally created mosaic of dichroic glass tiles, the sculpture is illuminated by a skylight and ambient light from the campus reception area. Disappearing and reappearing into the lobby ceiling, Signal’s form is a full analog wave below the skylight where it appears to hover over the reception area.
